Pressure Sensitive Labels
Pressure-sensitive labels, sometimes called self-adhesive labels or adhesive-backed labels, use adhesives that can be applied securely to most surfaces without the use of a secondary agent such as water, solvents or heat to strengthen the bond. The total construction of a pressure-sensitive label consists of a variety of layers, each with a specific function and purpose.

Label Construction
For most applications, the pressure-sensitive label will consist of a release liner, an adhesive and a face stock. In some cases, a top coat may be applied to the face stock to enhance ink adhesion. When required, a protective over-laminate or UV coating may also be applied.
Pressure sensitive labels may have variations in their construction with many additional layers depending on the application. Click on a layer to be taken to that section of this tutorial or continue through each chapter by clicking the navigation buttons below.
